The short answer
To check whether AI tools recommend your business, ask a stable set of real customer questions that do not include your business name. Save each full answer and record whether your business was mentioned, described correctly, recommended, or cited. Repeat the same questions over time. One answer is an example, not proof of your position across the whole market.
Why this matters now
People ask AI services for ideas, comparisons, and nearby options. A person might ask for a good accountant for a small retailer, a family hotel near an attraction, or an agency for a specific job.
Your business may appear. A competitor may appear instead. The answer may also describe your company incorrectly. A single score cannot explain which happened. You need to see the question and answer.
Start with questions people really ask
Talk to sales and support teams, read enquiry emails, and note how customers describe their problem. Turn those words into a short question list: “Who can help with this problem?”, “What are the best options in this area?”, or “Which provider suits a small business?”
Keep branded and unbranded questions separate
An unbranded question such as “What tool tracks local and AI visibility?” tests whether an AI service finds VisibleGen without being prompted with the name. A branded question such as “Is VisibleGen suitable for agencies?” tests what the service says about the brand.
Both are useful, but they answer different questions. Use unbranded prompts for discovery and branded prompts to review accuracy.
Save the whole answer
Do not record only “mentioned” or “not mentioned.” Save the exact question, AI provider, date, visible location settings, full answer, and sources where available.
- Recommended: presented as a suitable choice.
- Mentioned: named as one option.
- Cited: a page was used or linked as a source.
A mention is not always a recommendation. A citation is not always a visit. A visit is not always a sale. Keeping them separate makes the report easier to trust.
Check whether the description is correct
Being mentioned with the wrong information can be worse than not appearing. Check the business name, services, location, audience, prices, and any claims in the answer.
If something is wrong, find the likely source: your website, an old directory listing, a review site, or an article. Correct what you control. For other sites, update your profile or contact the publisher where appropriate.
A worked example: where one answer came from
In the October 22, 2026 Radar check for bird and pet shops in Ichhra, Lahore, ChatGPT recommended four businesses and displayed 12 cited sources. Seven were Google Maps listings, two were Yandex Maps listings, and three were business directories. None of the businesses’ own websites appeared among those 12 citations.
- Google Maps listings — 7
- Yandex Maps listings — 2
- Business directories — 3
- Business websites — 0
One cited listing also used a different name for a business. This is a practical reminder to check important public listings for accuracy. It does not prove that the same source mix appears for every question or AI provider.
Learn from the businesses that appear
When another business is recommended, inspect the stated reason and sources. Was it described with a clear specialty? Did its profiles agree? Did several independent sources support the same point?
Match the fix to the gap. It might be a website correction, a clearer service page, a profile update, or relevant third-party coverage.
Repeat the same check
AI answers vary. Use the same question set for regular checks. Keep failed checks separate from completed answers that did not mention your business. If you add a provider or change a question, record that change.
VisibleGen supports AI visibility work across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Grok where each provider is available and configured for the market and plan. Radar combines selected AI answer and local discovery checks in a report for Agency and Enterprise customers. Provider coverage may vary.
What to do next
Choose ten unbranded questions that reflect real buying decisions. Run a first check, save the answers, and look for one repeated problem.
Do not ask, “How do we make every AI service recommend us?” Ask, “What information is missing, unclear, or unsupported when buyers look for a business like ours?”
Next, read why competitors may appear first and see how agencies can build clear local and AI reports.
