The five-minute check

Open the AI assistants your customers are likely to use. Run the five prompts below without correcting or coaching the answer. Save the full response and any sources.

  1. Recognition: “What is [business name] and who is it for?”
  2. Category discovery: “What are the best [category] options for [audience]?”
  3. Problem discovery: “Who can help me solve [specific problem]?”
  4. Comparison: “Compare [business] with [real competitor] for [need].”
  5. Local fit: “What is a good [service] near [location] for [requirement]?”

Score four things

01Presence

Is the business named when the prompt is relevant?

02Accuracy

Are the category, audience, location, and strengths described correctly?

03Sources

Which pages or third-party sites support the answer?

The fourth signal is competitive fit: which alternatives appear, and what reason does the assistant give for choosing them?

How to interpret the result

If the assistant recognizes the brand but never recommends it, work on category fit and proof. If it recommends the brand but cites other websites, strengthen the pages that should become primary sources. If the description is wrong, correct inconsistent facts and publish a clearer explanation.

If you appear only in branded prompts, the main opportunity is discovery. Build content and authority around the problems, audiences, and comparisons customers ask about before they know your name.
